Monthly Summary

The area-weighted October precipitation total for the northeastern United States was 3.10 inches, which represented 93% of the normal monthly amount. Pennsylvania was the driest state with 67% of their normal precipitation total. Precipitation was generally above normal along the coast. Connecticut was the wettest state with 126% of their normal October precipitation accumulation.

Temperatures were cooler than normal throughout the Northeast during October. The average temperature for the twelve states in the region was 1.8 degrees cooler than the October normal. Out of the last 105 years, this was the 20th coolest on record. Northern New England exhibited the largest departures from normal, with Maine leading the way at 3 degrees colder than the thirty-year mean. Rhode Island was closest to normal with a departure of -0.2 degrees. This October was cooler than the last five Octobers in the Northeast.
