Climate Impacts - April 2005

Monthly Summary

The Northeast average temperature was 47.6 degrees, or 2.2 degrees above normal in April. Every state averaged above normal, There was not much temperature variation among the states in the region - Delaware was the coolest state with an average that was 1.2 degrees above normal, while Massachusetts, New York and Vermont were the warmest at 2.6 degrees above the 30 year average. In general, highs for the month occurred around the 20th-21st and the region saw it's lowest temperatures around the 16th and 17th.

April 2005 was a wet month, with all states recording greater than normal precipitation totals. Overall, the Northeast total of 4.85 inches placed this month the 10th wettest in 111 years. New Jersey was the driest state, with 104% of normal precipitation; Maine was the wettest of the Northeast states with 209% of normal rainfall. It was the 2nd wettest April in Maine, where heavy rain during the last week of the month contributed to the statewide total of 7.24 inches.
